Positive Displacement Roots Blowers in Cement Industry

India is the second largest producer of cement in the world. Further in order to develop infrastructure projects, Cement demand is going to see an upward trend. Some of the major initiatives taken by the government such as development of Smart Cities are expected to give substantial boost to the Cement sector.

A cement manufacturing plant consists of many stages and various cycles involved. Roots Blower (Twin/Tri Lobe Roots Blower also called Rotary Lobe Compressors) are widely used and installed in some of the important stages in cement manufacturing plants. Some of the common application where these Blowers are used are Kiln Burner Feeding, Precalciner Burner Feeding, Raw Meal Silo Feed Aeropol, Silo Mixing Bin Aeration, Surge Bin Aeration to name a few. The quality of these Roots Blowers should be excellent so as to work in the critical conditions of a cement manufacturing plant.

Acme Air Equipments Company Pvt. Ltd., an ISO 9001-2008 certified company, manufactures high quality Roots Blowers, Vacuum Pumps, Vacuum Boosters and Pneumatic Conveying Systems like Cement/Fly Ash Conveying System, Dust Collection System and Catalyst Unloading System. The company has been manufacturing Roots Blowers since 1990 and has been supplying to some of the leading and quality cement manufacturers in India.

Charging of kiln is one of the critical stages where Roots Blowers are used. These Blowers take normal atmospheric air at suction and compress it to the required capacity and the required pressure at discharge and supply it so as to charge the kiln for the next process. Roots Blowers are also used to convey cement and fly ash in a cement manufacturing plant. This process of conveying cement and fly ash is done pneumatically by using Roots Blower.

A common application in cement plant is Roots Blower installed for Kiln Feed Air Lift Pump and Raw Mill Air Lift Pump. We have executed installation of Roots Blower for this application requiring capacity of 8285 CMH and 0.6 kg/cm² discharge pressure. Suction pressure being atmospheric, design of Roots Blower is done considering differential pressure of 0.6 kg/cm² g. Initially, speed of Roots Blower is determined which works out to be 1020 RPM and accordingly shaft power of Roots Blower will be 191.7 KW. The above design is for a Twin Lobe type Roots Blower which is basically a positive displacement blower. Generally, no compression takes place inside of the Roots Blower and thus there is practically no change in the volume of the air delivered at the discharge end.

Selecting the correct blower model for such critical application in a Cement plant is the responsibility of manufacturer. A Quality product will always help in attaining overall optimum performance of the plant.
